Bubsibrain is a baby and toddler brand created by ARIA Nominated Artist Kristina Gowlland (Best Children's Album, whilst at the ABC). When Kristina became a mum, she created music and books to help her connect with her own babies. She also discovered that the tunes helped settle and calm, meaning...no more tears! Hi I’m Kris! I’m a mum to 3 beautiful boys and a wife. You may have heard the first album I recorded for the ABC; it was called Life Is Fun (By Amica). We were fortunate to receive an ARIA Nomination for this as ‘Best Children’s Album’. I then featured in many of the ABC kids nursery rhyme albums, singing and doing funny voice impressions. I also toured with Barney and Bob The Builder, hosting shows around the world. After I came off tour I thought my music career was finished. However, little did I know, that the music in me had only just begun. Here’s my story…
When I became a mum, for me it didn’t come easily, I was always in my own head, wanting to be that perfect mum. So, to overcome depression and lack of sleep, I wrote some songs which I sung to Harry (our first born).
The songs helped us play together and helped me engage with him, PLUS they also helped my husband and I when we needed to settle him. It was a miracle! Seriously life changing! I also found that while I sung, my mood lifted. I then started giving the music to people to try and found that it wasn’t just me. The music was helping others too! That’s when I decided to turn it into an album.
Working closely with the head NSW Paediatrician in Children’s Health, Dr John Eastwood to cover off developmental activities for babies 0 – 12 months and my talented Producer friend Mark Walmsley who helped me get the music out of my head and out into the world, we did it. Brought a beautiful album for babies and toddlers into the world.
An album of playtime songs, routine songs, chants and sleeptime lullabies, it’s truly special. We have used it for all 3 boys and sometimes at night, years on, they will still ask us to sing the songs.
I’d love to think that this is your babies first ever ‘Happy Sound Track’. I’d also love to know that those many years ago when I wrote the little melodies, they are now helping you on your journey. Whether you play and sing along, use it to settle and soothe or simply press play and let it play as background music. I truly hope you love it.
Oh and the books! These came about as I was obsessed with black and white shapes for newborn eye development. So much so, that I decided to create little characters made of shapes. Filling these in with black, white and shades of grey, they naturally developed personalities and almost wrote their own stories. The books are based on baby routines such as play, sleep, eat and bathtime. A beautiful way to connect with baby as their eyes develop.
